New Direction for Barcode Scanning
Bar codes in the form of paperless tickets are being used for American Airlines flight passengers to check-in at 27 airports now.
The service is limited to passengers who have Internet-accessible phones and valid email addresses to receive the bar codes. Instead of selecting the options to print their boarding pass from the AA website, customers can simply click the “Email for Use on Cell Phone or Other Device” option to receive the 2D bar code on their phone. Passengers can also check in baggage using the same method by scanning their boarding pass bar code at the self-service baggage machines or having an attendant scan the cell phone image at the ticket counter check-in.
