QR Codes: What’s on Your Tombstone?

7:39 pm Fun with Barcodes

QR Code on GraveWhile QR codes still aren’t prevalent in the US, they have become even more so in Japan. Now, QR codes are appearing on gravestones throughout the country. The gravestone manufacturer, Ishi no Koe, which means “Voice of the Stone,” markets the QR code gravestones on the premise that you can still interact with those who have past. By scanning the QR code on the grave, mourners can access information about who else visited the grave, in addition to viewing a profile and pictures of the deceased.

In the future, Ishi no Koe plans to develop a technology through the use of QR codes that would allow mourners to respect the deceased without physically going to the cemetery, which would definitely appeal to the younger generation.
